Urban Poor Development Advice with a Golden Heart
Fr Jorge Anzorena is the founding father of ACHR.
In his years of traveling Asia aiding, advising, supporting and writing
about the Urban Poor developments he has built an unsurpassed knowledge
of what’s happening in Asia with the urban poor. His efforts can be
seen in the SELAVIP Journal on Low Income Housing in Asia and Latin
America. But more important is his personal rapport and friendly
response to meeting face to face with the poor communities and their
supporters.
Fr Jorge spends around 6 months of each year traveling in Asia and
another 6 months writing up his experiences and lecturing at Sofia
University in Tokyo . Fr has been awarded the Magsaysay Award for
International Understanding.
Below is a photo diary of some of the work of Fr Jorge on just one
day of a longer visit to Cambodia in January 2001. The thousands who
know Fr Jorge from the Philippines to Pakistan and Korea to Indonesia
always look forward to his annual visits and to receiving the gifts that
wise men bring.

Fr Jorge builds an easy rapport with both young and old in the
communities he visits. As seen here at Teoul Samboe relocation
site in Phnom Penh

His experience with development
activities across Asia make him a rich source of information for NGO
activists who field him a never-ending barrage of questions.

Straight from the airport
we visited 4 relocation sites around Phnom Penh. The following
days were also busy meetings with SUPF, URC, UPDF and city
officials.
