Communities attended the Secure Tenure
Launch planning process Manila and Cebu in the Philippines
The groups were walked through the actual
process of how to plan a Secure Tenure Launch involving 18 cities. They
were also present in negotiations with the Housing Secretary of the
Philippines and numerous other gatherings and negotiations between governments,
mayors NGOs and communities. We've found this type of
"reality / experiential training" more valuable than planning together in the
"classroom".

Exchange Savings and
Networking experiences
Since Thai communities started exchanges with communities
last year 15 communities in Laos have started savings organisations.
They have organised into a group called the Foundation for Community
Development. During the latest exchange in August 2000 the emphasis
was on linking the 15 communities into a network to enable them to work
more effectively together. Several exchanges have occurred over the past
year. There are differences between the languages (Thai and Lao), but
not enough to make communication difficult. The close proximity between
the countries means communities can travel by car to share with each
other. It
is expected the work of the new network formed will expand very quickly in the
coming months.
