The Fires     The Relocated     The Renters       The Block Tanpa Rooftop Fire

After the fires many families remained behind in Bassac while the others were relocated.   These were the renters who were not eligible for land at the relocation site.    They were joined by other groups of families who could not survive at the new site 20 kms away.  The 147 families set up temporary shelters and awaited  their future.

In mid February the families were threatened with eviction.   The local Solidarity for the Urban Poor Federation held a meeting to help organise a decent resettlement plan.   Here they explain the need to start a DAILY SAVINGS process  to create a resource base and  a strong community organisation.

The families agree and the Daily Savings begin. During the following week leaders confer with other groups in SUPF who had had similar experiences.   The community's isolation is broken by joining  and planning with SUPF
