The Lead up ....
Catalysing the Network

Hundreds of urban poor communities, and thousands of people including artists, media workers, government officials volunteered time and effort.  

JAKARTA AGREES:    that APD2 will be an event of the grassroots groups and that they will be the main subject . The NGOs and others are assistants that help carry out their communal decisions.

Jakarta General Meeting: 50 representatives of community and sectoral groups, discussed plans for APD2. 
Issues raised: election of participants, pre-workshop activities in communities including dates and venues, facilitators and logistical needs. 

Another meeting was organised on 24 August to finalise all the details of the plans.

The above group  workshops discussed current issues, problems, success stories, strategies and future plans that pertain the issues discussed. The participants then visualized them in drawings, posters, figures and others to be displayed in the APD2 event.

The workshops were a useful means for the community leaders to reach out to new individuals in urban poor communities and sectors to join in the network and participate.  They also  functioned effectively as a way to do community data collection, mapping and planning.

MILAR  Lead up activities took place in the cities and regions across Indonesia  ......  far too many to detail here

The event has drawn not only the participation of the urban poor groups and the facilitating NGOs but also professional and artists who volunteered themselves for various APD2 activities. 

Artists in the five regions volunteered to design the posters, logo, t-shirt, banner, and cultural events; university professors and students were involved as interpreters, and media people helped mobilise the printed, audio and audiovisual media to give good coverage of the event. 

Government ministers and officials agreed to engage in the dialogue on urban poor and impoverishment issues.
