The problem of bedspace apartments (commonly known
as cagehomes) has always been a matter of concern for SoCO. In the
Survey of 1997 SoCO found there were 113 such apartments in Hong Kong
with a total of 3,000 tenants.
SoCO's Survey booklet is available form ACHR as
is the book of Photographs from which the 4 pictures here have come.
88% of the tenants are male. There is a
downward trend in the average age of tenants. 58% are less than 60
years old. Many are physically weak.
The housing problems of the elderly is one of
SoCO's main concerns.
