The Borrie Kiella Land Sharing Project

In this project the land developer has persuaded all of the house dwellers to move to 3 buildings of 6 story walk up flats which are provided by the developer on part of the original site. In return the house dwellers allow the developer to take the more valuable portion of land for commercial development. It has been described as a “win – win “ situation for the private sector, the people and the city”. The developer can still make substantial profit and no-one is evicted.

The original Borrie Kiella community had a total land size of 14 hectares. The original community will have 4.60 hectares for 1,776 families. Later, community negotiated with the Private company through Municipality of Phnom Penh to share half of the land - about 2.60 for private company and proceed to construction 10 buildings on the remaining 2 hectares.

10 buildings, of 6 floors each, each building has a total of 174 rooms: 4 by 12 meters. Each building is 25 meters width and 65 meter length.
