Diary of an Urban Poor Relocation in Phnom Penh |
The Solidarity for the Urban Poor Federation SUPF, ACHR,
UNCHS and the Municipal Government of Phnom Penh collaborated on a
re-location project in Phnom Penh beginning in 1997.
By April 2000 we can report that the 129 families have settled into
the new site and 128 have constructed their houses.
They have used loans totaling around 50,000 US$ for housing from an Urban Poor
Devlt Fund [UPDF] especially created for this and future projects.
The average housing loan per family was around 400 US$
Land was given by the municipality, infrastructure developed by UNCHS
and the housing process organised through savings mechanisms by SUPF and
the UPDF.
